4th December 2023 | The Music School Bangalore, Bangalore
The Music School Bangalore (TMSB) launched one of its most exciting community
initiatives in December 2023, Music Magician, a city wide online music competition
inviting musicians of every level and genre to step forward, share their talent, and
compete for some seriously compelling prizes.
The concept was simple, bold, and entirely in keeping with TMSB's belief that music
belongs to everyone, not just those already inside a classroom or on a professional stage.
Show us what you've got.
How It Worked
Music Magician was designed to be as accessible as possible, removing every barrier between a musician and their moment in the spotlight. Participants were invited to record a 30-second performance reel showcasing their best their
instrument, their voice, their beat, their art. The reel was then posted publicly on Instagram, tagging The Music School Bangalore and using the hashtag #TMSBMusic.
No audition. No application form. No gatekeeping. Just 30 seconds of music and the courage to share it with the world!
The competition was open to musicians of all levels, from absolute beginners performing for the first time to seasoned artists looking for a platform to reach a wider audience. The only requirement was a passion for music and the willingness to put it out there.

Prizes Worth Playing For
Music Magician offered prizes that reflected TMSB's genuine commitment to nurturing musical talent, not just recognising it.
1st Place received three months of free music classes at TMSB, a cash prize of ₹8,000, and a feature across TMSB's platforms, giving the winner not just recognition but a real, structured opportunity to develop their craft at one of India's most internationally connected music institutions.
2nd Place received two months of free music classes and a social media feature.
3rd Place received one month of free music classes and a social media feature.
The top 10 performances were featured on TMSB's website and social media channels, giving every finalist a platform that extended well beyond the competition itself.
These were not token prizes. They were genuine invitations to learn, to grow, and to become part of the TMSB community.
Why Music Magician Mattered
Music Magician was about more than competition. It was about community.
At its heart, the initiative reflected something TMSB has always believed that Bangalore is full of extraordinary musical talent that simply needs a platform. Musicians practicing in bedrooms and garages. Vocalists who have never performed in front of an audience. Producers crafting beats that no one outside their circle has ever heard. Music Magician said: 'we want to hear you'- By asking participants to share their reels publicly and encouraging friends and followers to
cheer them on, the competition created a ripple effect, a wave of musical content spreading across Instagram, connecting musicians with audiences, and building a community around the shared love of music that sits at the heart of everything TMSB does.
Part of a Larger Vision
Music Magician was one of several initiatives through which TMSB has worked to build a thriving music community in Bangalore, alongside the Friday Live Drive weekly performance platform and the TMSB Open Stage monthly showcase for independent artists.
Together these initiatives reflect a vision of TMSB not just as a music institution but as a hub, a place where Bangalore's musical community comes together to learn, perform, compete, collaborate, and grow.
