TMSB Students Visit Singapore Raffles Music College for Inaugural Industry Forum, A Cultural and Creative Exchange Across Borders

The Music School Bangalore (TMSB) took its partnership with Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC) beyond paperwork and formal agreements in February 2025, sending a delegation of students and faculty to Singapore from 19th to 22nd February for SRMC's inaugural Industry Forum, and experiencing firsthand what an international music education partnership looks and feels like when it comes fully to life. It was a visit that none of the students who made the journey will easily forget.

The Inaugural Industry Forum

SRMC's inaugural Industry Forum was a landmark event in its own right, bringing together industry leaders, educators, and musicians to explore the evolving creative arts landscape in Asia and beyond. For TMSB's students, the opportunity to participate in an event of this calibre, alongside music professionals, educators, and students from across the region, was an experience that went far beyond what any classroom could provide. It was a direct encounter with the realities of the international music industry: the conversations, the connections, the perspectives, and the energy that define what it means to build a career in music at a global level.

The TMSB delegation spent four days at SRMC, from 19th to 22nd February, immersing themselves in everything the partnership had to offer. It was not a brief courtesy visit. It was a full, substantive engagement with SRMC's campus, community, faculty, students, and industry network, the kind of experience that genuinely changes how a student sees their own place in the world of music.

A Cultural and Creative Exchange Beyond the Industry Forum itself, the visit was a rich cultural and creative exchange. one that captured everything a genuine international partnership between two music institutions should produce. SRMC Students Perform TMSB Original Compositions One of the most extraordinary moments of the entire visit came when SRMC's Performance students took to the stage to perform original compositions written = by TMSB's own students, bringing Bangalore's music to life on a Singapore stage, performed by Singaporean musicians who had never met the composers. It was a moment of genuine creative collaboration, music crossing borders and cultures, speaking its universal language in the most direct way possible. For TMSB's students, watching their compositions performed by international musicians was an experience of extraordinary validation, a reminder that the music they are creating in Bangalore has a life and a resonance that extends far beyond the city where it was

written.Exploring Chinese Musical Instruments The visit also gave TMSB's students a fascinating window into a musical tradition they had little prior exposure to, a guided exploration of unique Chinese instruments that broadened their understanding of the world's extraordinary diversity of musical traditions.

For students trained in Western contemporary music, the encounter with Chinese musical heritage was a reminder of something that sits at the heart of a truly comprehensive music education, that the world contains musical traditions of extraordinary depth and sophistication, and that understanding them enriches every aspect of a musician's creative practice.

The Hospitality of SRMC Ryan Goh, Executive Director of Singapore Raffles Music College, Andy Koh, and Jeremy Koh were warmly acknowledged for the care, generosity, and thoughtfulness with which they hosted the TMSB delegation throughout the four days. Their hospitality went beyond the formal dimensions of the partnership, creating an

environment in which TMSB's students felt genuinely welcomed, valued, and inspired.
